Pipe Spring National Monument
Truly dark sky, with the zodiacal light clearly visible.
Located on the Arizona Strip near the Utah border, Pipe Spring sits in some of the most sparsely populated country in the lower 48. The monument preserves a historic 19th-century fort but the surrounding landscape is what draws stargazers. Minimal nearby development and dry desert air combine for reliable transparency on clear nights, and the horizon is flat in most directions.
