Dark Sky Parks
Acadia National Park
Bar Harbor, MaineBortle 3 Best in Fall
Rural sky, where the Milky Way shows complex structure.
One of the most visited national parks in the eastern United States, Acadia sits on Mount Desert Island off the coast of Maine with some of the darkest accessible skies in New England. The carriage road network gives access to open terrain away from visitor center lighting, and the summit of Cadillac Mountain is the first place in the continental US to see sunrise from October through March. Fall brings exceptional transparency and the park's famous foliage as foreground. A certification push is underway through the Friends of Acadia.
