South Llano River State Park
Rural sky, where the Milky Way shows complex structure.
Certified in 2017. Bortle 3. A smaller and quieter Hill Country park near Junction, Texas, where the South Llano River runs through live oak bottomlands and limestone bluffs. The park is best known for its wildlife, particularly wild turkeys and white-tailed deer, but the dark sky certification reflects genuinely good overhead skies away from major light sources. The campground sits along the river with a natural canopy overhead that opens to clear sky from the meadow areas. A good choice for visitors who want a Hill Country river camping experience with darker skies than the more popular parks closer to San Antonio and Austin.
