Dark Sky Parks
Rappahannock County Park
Washington, VirginiaBortle 2 Best in Summer
Truly dark sky, with the zodiacal light clearly visible.
At just 7.3 acres, Rappahannock County Park is one of the smallest International Dark Sky Parks in the world. Despite its size, its location in one of the darkest remaining pockets of the eastern United States, shielded by the Blue Ridge foothills just east of Shenandoah National Park, produces Bortle 2 skies. The park runs monthly new moon events and a signature Milky Way Spectacular program in late summer. Silver Tier certified.
