Copper Breaks State Park
Truly dark sky, with the zodiacal light clearly visible.
Gold Tier certified by DarkSky International in 2014, one of the earlier dark sky parks in Texas. Bortle 2. Sits in the rolling red plains of northwest Texas near Quanah, far enough from any significant city that the horizon is dark in every direction. The park has a small lake, camping facilities, and a low-key atmosphere that keeps crowds manageable year-round. The open plains terrain gives wide unobstructed views. One of the more accessible Bortle 2 sites in the state for visitors based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, about three hours to the southeast.
